Gowalla vs Foursquare
I have been a big fan of Foursquare for a while now. I have convinced many people to start using it and have had some fun with it. However, the recent updates to Gowalla caused me to start using both side by side for a few weeks. Gowalla slowly started to win me over with it’s item system which allows you to pick up, trade or leave an item at places you check into. It may sound silly, but where it gets interesting is seeing the history of an item. To find one that has traveled across the country is kinda cool to see it’s path to get to you. The thing that pushed me over the edge of the fence though was traveling to Maui. I landed and opened up Gowalla and the airport was listed. I opened up Foursquare and it told me I was in a city it didn’t support so I couldn’t use it. What? Come on. Also, while in Maui I had to make a bunch of new places and the process of adding places in Gowalla is much easier than on Foursquare. The idea that multiple people can become a founder rather than just one person becoming a mayor is also much more appealing. I am going with Gowalla from here on out because it is just more fun. I am coming back from Maui with a virtual pack of souvenirs from Hawaii to drop all over SF to start their mainland journey.
